Students who qualify can participate in Work Study at South College, but did you know that the Resource Center is one of the places you might end up working?

One unique aspect of my job is supervising work study students. As it happens, I currently have five that I supervise throughout the week. I thought it would be fun to ask one of them a few questions so that everyone can get some insight into what it is like to do work study inside Nashville’s Resource Center. I chose Maitri Amin as she is the student who has the most tasks assigned to her and who I have spent the most time with.

  1. Can you give us a little background about yourself?

  • My name is Maitri Amin and I’m from Nashville, TN. I graduated in 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in science. Currently, I’m doing the medical assisting program at South College with a plan of going to PA school once I finish the program.

  1. What made you decide to do work study?

  • I decided to sign up for work study because I thought it would be a great way to interact with students, the faculty, and be more involved on campus. Also, it’s nice having the extra cash go towards tuition.

  1. Are you enjoying your experience so far?

  • I do enjoy working in the Resource Center. Not just because it’s flexible and convenient, but also because it’s a new learning experience and I get to do more behind the scenes tasks.

  1. Did you ask to be in the resource center or were you placed here?

  • I was placed in the resource center.

  1. What are some things you do during your shift?

  • During my shift, I check-in and check-out laptops, check-in and check-out books, as well as help troubleshoot issues with computers and printing. I also help schedule and proctor students for the ATI TEAS exams. Along with this work, I also have plenty of time to study for my classes.

  1. How great of a supervisor am I on a scale from great to really great?

  • My supervisor is awesome! She is funny, super understanding, a great listener to my daily stories, and helpful. I have genuinely enjoyed working with her.

  1. Is there anything else you’d like to add?

  • I don’t have much to add except that I wish there was a little bit more work to do inside the Resource Center.
