Brain Injuries

Brain injuries can range from mild concussions to severe traumatic brain injuries. Brain injuries can occur from external forces like a fall or accident, or internal factors like a stroke or infection.

Mild traumatic brain injury can physically look like a headache, nausea/vomiting, fatigue, problems with speech, and dizziness or imbalance. Other symptoms can be blurred vision, ringing in ears, and/or changes in taste and smell. Moderate to severe can include the symptoms of mild traumatic brain injury along with loss of consciousness, convulsions/seizures, dilation of one or both pupils, weakness or numbness, or clear fluids draining from the nose or ears.

Symptoms in infants and young children will look different due to the inability of communicating. In a child, the symptoms could be a change in eating or nursing habits, unusual irritability, persistent crying, change in attention span, change in sleep habits, seizures, sadness or change in mood, drowsiness, and loss of interest in activities.
