Fact-Checking: How to Guide

What is Fact-Checking?

A fact is something that can be been proven through observation, experimentation, or research, or it can be something that is widely accepted as true. Facts are objective, meaning they are independent of any individual's opinion or belief. Because facts are the building blocks of knowledge and understanding, they are essential for making informed decisions.

Fact checking is the process of verifying the accuracy of information. It involves looking for evidence to support claims and identifying any misleading or false statements.

How does fact checking relate to critical thinking skills?

When you encounter information, you might ask yourself: Where does this information come from? Does it sound too good to be true?  Fact-checking helps you gather evidence to support or refute a claim. This evidence can then be used to form a well-informed opinion through critical thinking.
