Kinesiology: Guide Home

What is Kinesiology?

Kinesiology is a study that stems from chiropractic and applied kinesiology. In addition, it is based on ancient Chinese acupuncture theory of chi energy; where muscles are tested not only for strength, but for biofeedback. Kinesiology is the study of human movement that encompasses several disciplines:

  • Anatomy
  • Physiology
  • Biomechanics
  • Motor Control
  • Exercise Science

Some techniques utilized in kinesiology are:

  • Acupressure
  • Lymphatic massages
  • Hypertonic muscle release
  • Attention to reflex, trigger, and body points
  • Remedies (homeopathic)
  • Nutritional advice

Those who study and work in kinesiology related disciplines are called kinesiologists. They analyze how the body moves, how injuries occur, and how to improve body movement and function. The work settings that incorporate this knowledge are:

  • Physical Therapy
  • Sports Medicine
  • Ergonomics
  • Health Education
  • Research
