  1. Open communication: open communication with a team will not only increase morale but also help the team understand goals and tasks.
  2. Strategic thinking: leaders do a lot of research and objectively analyze decisions to reach goals, so they must be able to think strategically and critically.
  3. Flexibility: leaders who can adapt well to change and problem solve at a moment’s notice are able to get out of comfort zones and achieve solutions to any problem.
  4. Conflict resolution: resolving conflict within the team will help the organization stay strong and allow for better teamwork.
  5. Time management: leaders need to delegate, prioritize, multitask, and communicate with team members.
  6. Reliability: team members depend on the leader and look to them for guidance.
  7. Organization: leaders need to stay organized because they have to juggle projects, time, deadlines, team members, and more.
  8. Delegation: leaders should know the skills and strengths of their team, which will enable them to delegate tasks accordingly.
  9. Feedback: leaders should not only be able to provide constructive feedback but be able to receive feedback from their team as well.

Essential Skills - Healthcare

  1. Integrity: maintaining integrity, encompassing honesty, and adhering to principles of professionalism, sets a good example for employees under healthcare leaders, especially when taking care of other people.
  2. Communication: leaders in healthcare will have to communicate with many different people and relay information to them; having effective communication skills builds trust and openness.
  3. Self-awareness: being able to recognize strengths and weaknesses allows leaders to self-reflect on work on their weak points to become better leaders to their team.
  4. Learning agility: the healthcare field is one that is always changing, and leaders need to be able to navigate the changes and be willing to learn.
  5. Empathy: empathetic leaders will understand cultural and societal identities within their workforce and understand the diversity around them, leading them to be more emotionally intelligent and effective leaders.
  6. Courage: courageous leaders step up when problems arise and delegate tasks to team members instead of shying away. from any problems.
