Leadership

Traits of Effective Leaders

  1. Positivity: being positive will help encourage team members to perform better and create a better sense of community within the organization.
  2. Influential: leaders are the go-to person within an organization, so being able to influence others is important. This can be through active listening, understanding, and encouraging team members, or building trust; employees will listen more to leaders who actively try to understand them and hear what they have to say. This will also help with employee retention and reducing turnover.
  3. Integrity: employees want to know that they will be advocated for and be treated fairly, and doing so will build trust within the team and create a more successful environment. Maintaining high moral standards and reinforcing the importance of honesty is very important for leaders.
  4. Respectful: being respectful helps maintain trust, ease conflict, and improves teamwork. Respectfulness can be shown in many ways but supporting equity, diversity, and inclusion goes a long way as a leader.
  5. Self-awareness: being self-aware means you have a solid understanding of yourself and can recognize your strengths and weaknesses, which will make you an effective leader.
  6. Resilience: maintaining a positive outlook and being able to come back after setbacks shows that you are able to adapt to challenges that come your way, as well as sets a good example for your team.
