What is an Annotated Bibliography?

An annotated bibliography is a list of sources used in a paper each followed by a brief, evaluative summary of the source. The annotation is usually a paragraph in length. The purpose of an annotated bibliography is to inform the reader of the relevance, accuracy, and quality of each source. An annotated bibliography can be an assignment in itself or part of a larger assignment.

The SMART Evaluation Worksheet is a set of questions to ask when you are evaluating a source. It can be a helpful tool in the process of writing an annotated bibliography.
