Secondary Data Sets

Contact Researchers

Another effective method for acquiring secondary data is to directly engage with the published scholarly literature. This involves searching academic databases within the South College Library's collection or using tools like Google Scholar to identify research articles that align with your topic. Once relevant articles are found, pay close attention to the "Data Availability Statement," typically located near the end of the paper before the reference list. These statements explicitly indicate whether the authors are willing to share their raw data files, whether the data are publicly available in a repository, or if there are restrictions on access. If the statement indicates a willingness to share data upon request, locate the corresponding author's email address, usually provided at the beginning of the article, and politely inquire about obtaining the data set. This approach allows you to access highly specific and often unique data sets that directly underpin published research findings.
