Request Data from Organizations

This tactic involves exploring organizations, associations, and agencies that are likely to conduct research and collect data relevant to your topic. These can range from public entities, such as government agencies like the U.S. Census Bureau or the National Center for Health Statistics, to private organizations, such as research institutes like the Pew Research Center or industry-specific associations. The key is to think broadly about who would have a vested interest in your subject matter. Once you identify potential organizations, navigate their websites and look for sections or tabs dedicated to "Research," "Reports," "Publications," or "Data." These sections often house summaries of their findings, surveys, or studies that indicate data collection has occurred. When you find a promising report, thoroughly review it for any evidence of contact information, such as an author's email, a research department's contact, or a data request form, to inquire about accessing the underlying data sets.
