Continuing Education Defined

Continuing education measure formal learning outside of degree programs. They are essential for professionals in rapidly changing fields like healthcare, education, business, and technology. By requiring continuing education, organizations and licensing boards ensure that professionals stay updated on industry developments, maintain high standards, and ultimately protect the public.

What kind of continuing education do I need?

Most medical professionals, such as physicians and physician assistants, are required to earn Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits from approved providers to maintain their license.
Some medical professionals, such as nurses and educators, may use Continuing Education (CE or CEU) credits in order to maintain their license.

(0.1 CEU) Faculty can accrue CE credits to submit for certificates by searching Dynamic Health and reading the topics. Accredited by American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
CINAHL Ultimate
(0.1 CEU). Find a list of CEU modules by clicking on the Quick Lessons link at the top of the CINAHL Ultimate search page. From each Quick Lesson, click the CE Module link to access the learning module. Score 80% or higher on the quiz to earn credit.

Earn CMEs by reading articles and answering a reflective question.
UpToDate
(0.5 CME) AMA PRA Category 1 Credit
Faculty can accrue CE credits to submit for certificates by searching UpToDate and reading the topics. Make sure you are signed in to your personal UpToDate account each time before searching. Credits can be accrued using the website or the UpToDate app.
The Medical Letter
(2 CME) AMA PRA Category 1 Credit
Complete a module and score 70% or higher on the connected quiz. Under About Us > Continuing Education. Sign in with your South College email address.

McGraw Hill: How to Earn CME Credits
(0.5 CME) AMA PRA Category 1 Credit
CME credits are offered in accordance with the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint providership of Interstate Postgraduate Medical Association and McGraw Hill. There is no limit to the number of credits users can receive. In the Books library, check the "CME Eligible" box.
