This guide contains information about the library services and teaching resources available to South College faculty. South College's librarians are here to assist you and your students with your information needs.
Each library and resource center offers a reserve collection for faculty to place personal and library materials on reserve for their current students to use. Items are held at the service desk. Most reserve items are for in library use only but faculty may choose to allow students to take materials home for a set amount of time. Reserve materials are removed from the collection at the end of each quarter and returned to the faculty or the library collection.
To place items on reserve, please speak to a staff member and fill out a reserve form.
A desk copy is a complimentary copy of a title that an instructor has already adopted for use in a course. Faculty interested in obtaining a desk copy of a textbook should direct their requests for desk copies to South College's Vice President of Academic Services or to the textbook's vendor. Different vendors have different requesting processes and requirements.
In general, meeting rooms and computer labs are available on a first come, first served basis; however, you can request to reserve a room. To reserve a room, please fill-out a room reservation form located under the Reservations tab on the library's homepage. Once there you will select your campus and choose from the different rooms available.
Library staff will administer make up exams and will proctor exams for students who, because of accommodations, require a separate space for testing. For site specific information, please refer to information about testing and reservations under the Reservations tab on the library's homepage.
Audiovisual equipment is available for faculty checkout through the library department. TVs with VCR/DVD and remotes for classroom projectors are available for reserve on a first come, first served basis at both Lonas and Parkside campuses. Please contact your local library/resource center to reserve equipment. Students who need audiovisual equipment for class presentations may make reservations through their course instructor.
Faculty or staff may check out a designated faculty laptop for use on campus for the current day until the library closes. Current South College ID is required for faculty or staff to check out a laptop. Laptop reservations are on a first come, first served basis. Faculty or staff may check out a designated student laptop for a student to use in class if the student’s personal laptop is not working. For student testing, faculty may check out multiple student laptops for their students to test when the computer lab is unavailable.
Online students and faculty are welcome to schedule appointments to meet with a librarian online to get help with projects and research. The librarian will send you a link to a Teams or Zoom meeting.
Select a librarian from the gallery on the opposite side of the page, and click their Book an Appointment link to get started. To see your list of Program Librarians, go to your Program Guide first.
