Did You Know?
Nashville's New Librarian
The South College Library is excited to welcome Lauren Kent as our new Instruction Librarian at the Nashville learning site. While Lauren will be working closest with our Nashville students and faculty, she will be part of library’s virtual reference team and, as such, she will be engaging with students and faculty from all campuses by answering questions that come in via our chat and email system.
Lauren, who is originally from Connecticut, earned her undergraduate degree from Temple University and her master’s degree in library science from the University of Kentucky. She lives in Nashville with her husband, Orlando, and their calico cat. To say that Lauren is enthusiastic about writing is an understatement. We plan to capitalize on her love of writing as a contributor to our library blog. Look for Lauren’s contributions to the blog on the library website!
Faculty Requests for Purchase
The library budgets to purchase new materials and resources for faculty and student use throughout the academic year. Faculty are encouraged to contact their program librarian to discuss new books, ebooks and materials to support their courses. A Request Form is available on the Faculty section of the library website.
Resource Highlight: Academic Video Online
Are you looking for a way to make your students’ discussions more robust? Enhance your teaching with streamed videos from the library’s AVON collection. Many instructors use short clips of streamed video to reinforce content they have already covered. Teaching by way of streamed video is an effective way of varying your teaching practices to accommodate diverse learning modalities. With streamed video, you can introduce students to new perspectives, viewpoints, and expertise that exists beyond the class environment. Want help finding the right video to supplement your course material? Contact your program librarian!
